Embryo Transfer=Torture

Before I get to the details of the terrible transfer we had yesterday, I'll start with the good news. We transferred 3 grade A embryos. We also were able to freeze 3 grade A embryos. That means out of our original 7 embryos all but one made it!!! I am still in shock and am so happy to know we now have 5 frosties if we need them:)

As for the transfer....

I did my best and drank about 40 ounces of fluid before we got to the RE's office, which apparently wasn't enough. I drank another 10:( I was about to explode. It seems that my bladder does not fill very quickly, but in the end I had a bladder full of nearly 50 ounces of water. But that wasn't the worst part of the transfer.

Once they thought my bladder was good enough they tried to put the catheter in, and my uterus did not cooperate and decided to be all curved or something. So they had to pull out this torture device (except with long arms):

The spikes clamped on to my cervix so they could pull it and make my uterus straight enough to put the catheter in. It was so painful I started to cry and think I broke Greg's hand in the process. So, they stopped and decided to give me some meds intravenously for the pain. Except they could not find a vein that worked and after 5 or 6 pokes and digging they finally gave me an IM shot of Versid and Demerol. Fuck was it awful.

After nearly two hours at the RE's office they finally made the transfer and I laid on my back for 45 mins. I did have to use the bedpan but I did so with grace and no mess:) Once we left we stopped by the acu and I feel asleep on the acu table for a half an hour.

Snuggle in embies! Snuggle!!!

And welcome to the world Toodle!!! We are so happy for you and know your brother and sister and looking down on you with joy:)

I'm hoping that TERRIBLE (owie!) transfer was well worth it and will have a nice embie or two snuggled in for the long haul! :)

I had to have that device during my mock transfer and it was a nightmare. I'm sorry you had to go through that ordeal. :-( At least you had good news with your little embabies!

I'm sorry the transfer was so traumatic. But the great news is, most of your embies are where they're supposed to be now! And I'm so glad you have a few frosties for later. Hopefully you won't need them for a few years. Big Hugs, and a wish for a speedy 2ww.

BTW, I changed my URL. So you probably need to update your blog roll. =) Sorry for the trouble.

just catching up. this is great news!!! (not the transfer...but the embryo status :) ) perhaps since the transfer was such a mess the 2ww will be much better? ;)

OMG!!! They used a tenaculum for your transfer?!! That is sooo scary. I am sorry you had such a horrible experience. Here's to hoping that the embies snuggle in for the long haul so you don't have to do a transfer again!! Thinking of you.
