Bedtime

We have what I thought was a well-planned bedtime routine. Problem is it only works for ONE baby! We take the babies upstairs at 8pm. The lights get turned off, the turtle gets turned on (it's shell makes stars on the ceiling) and the iPod playlist of lullabies gets put on. Then each baby has their diaper changed and their jammies on. One last bottle in the rocking chair, then swaddle, cuddles and sleep. We've tried adding bathtime to the routine, but it doesn't seem to have any added benefit.

Elijah is asleep by the time his head his the mattress. Hazel? Well, its 9:30 and she is laying in bed next to me just staring around the room giving me the occasional smile. She just doesn't want to sleep. It varies for night to night, she is either wide awake or battling the sandman to keep those eyes open, and she always wins. This goes on for usually 2 hrs. Tonight I gave up so that I could have at least some 'me' time.

We use the EASY (eat, activity, sleep, you) routine during the day and she naps really well. I would say she does sleep a bit more during the day than Elijah, but once she finally falls asleep at night she sleeps longer stretches. So, all-in-all they sleep the same number of hours a day. We are loud during the day for naptime and quiet (no talking!) at night. I really don't think she has her days and nights mixed up, I just think she is stubborn!

I think she is gonna be one of those kids who thinks the party starts the moment they close their eyes at night. I joked with Greg that while she is fighting sleep she is picturing us and the dogs with party hats on, and each of us has a nice warm bottle, a shiny new paci and a stack of clean, soft diapers:) And there is no way she is going to miss that!

Any of you have one twin that loves their routine and another who fights it? What do you do?

lurker here...I have the same problem with Lauren. Colin is great, he goes right to sleep or at least quietly lays till he falls asleep but Lauren is a monster at night, she fights it with everything she has and usually an hour after Colin goes down she finally falls asleep. I have no clue what to do, i'm anxious to see if anyone has some ideas! Oh and Colin sleeps 11-12hrs a night and Lauren is still getting up once sometimes twice!

LOL. Really trying not to laugh, but it's adorable. She sounds like such a curious girl.

i think it is just how it is. or maybe that's just what i tell myself? my kids are the same way, but they swap roles often. in fact, i was just telling someone how t was such a good sleeper and tonight he's the one that really fought going down.

for the most part i think that they both fight sleep more when they are overtired. i just try to stick to the routine and hope for the best. i can handle anything for a short period of time :)

i had never heard of the EASY method. where did you get that??
