Done with the pump

Since day 1 I have been trying my damnedest to provide breastmilk for my babies. I pumped until my nipples bled. I took herbs, ate lactation cookies, met with LCs many, many times. I rented a hospital grade pump. I read blogs and articles about how to increase your supply. I got a hands free bra to make it easier. I set up a routine. I made a spreadsheet to chart my pumping times and output. I did so much and was able to give Hazel breastmilk for 3/4 of her feedings for the first 2 months of her life. But now I am done.

Being home alone with both of them is a lot of work. Its only been a few days but I already know that in order for me to be a good, sane mom I need time for me. Right now there is no extra time, so, I am quitting pumping. It is something I HATE doing, and if I can make my day a little better by spending that time doing something I actually want to do -like play with the babies instead of trying to stuff pacis in their mouths in order to pump- that is what I am going to do.

I am not quitting on a bad day and I am at peace with my decision. I will not have EBF (exclusively breastfeed) babies, but that is okay. I will have healthy little FF (formula fed) babies and I will be happier.

You should be so proud of yourself for doing what you did as long as you did. I hope I can make it as long as you! It sounds like you made the right decision for all four of you. I hope this decision relieves a lot of stress and makes for a happier you, which will = happier babies!

Happy momma = happy babies. That is all that matters. Your darlings will continue to thrive on formula... don't you feel one ounce of guilt. They get much more (and much better quality) of time with their mom and that is priceless.

I can;t blame you one bit! Getting my supply to increase and finding time to pump with twins is a constant battle! Glad you will have a little more you time!!
