A few steps back

Elijah has had a rough day. He wasn't maintaining his body temperature very well and was put under the heating lamps, which still didn't help, so he is back in an isolette. He has also been having a lot of green residuals and spit up. Tonight was pretty scary, he just kept vomiting large amounts of green while I was holding him. It was enough that they ordered an x-ray to be sure it is nothing serious. The x-ray looked good so they are going to go down on his feedings from 24cc to 10cc overnight to see if it helps. I hope it does, I am worried about him:(

Hazel has been doing really well. They haven't really changed much of her protocol, but she is stable where she is. Though, apparently her veins suck as much as mine do and they haven't had much luck putting IVs in her. Right now she has one in her head:( My poor babies.

I can't say I am in much better condition at this point. I am writing from a hospital bed. Yup, back in the hospital for me. I got 3 nights at home, that's all. Since the c/s my blood counts have been extremely low. They tired to bring them up with iron pills with the hopes of avoiding a blood transfusion. Well, today they were still really low and I was feeling dizzy and really exhausted. I've had one unit already, am working on the second, and will get a third over night. They will check me again in the morning and hopefully my counts will be good enough to send me home. I do have to say as much as I hate being in this hospital again as a patient, I am feeling glad to be so close to the babies tonight, especially with Elijah not doing so well.

And so the roller coaster of the NICU begins. I guess I couldn't expect good news all the time.

arg. that sucks. babies born this early really have a hard time maintaining temps. baby boy was in the NICU for an extra 5 days for that alone. it was always an emotional rollercoaster: what would we find when we went into the NICU? a popped top? a baby in the isolette? 3 blankets or just one? etc.

thinking lots about you!!! xoxo

It is a roller coaster, but I am praying the E and H will continue to do well. Sometimes a small step back results in a huge step forward. Saying a prayer for more forward steps than back!
