Since DH will be starting his new job next week, and his old boss decided a one week notice was sufficient, he had the week off. So, at the last minute we decided to take a short vacation (Vacay if you are a hipster, I am not) and spent Sunday-Tuesday in Chicago. And how last minute was it you ask? DH was booking the hotel on hotwire about an hour before we caught the train while I was shoving clothes in a bag and freaking out about whether the dogs would be okay with only a few hours of love a day (they were even though I asked DH to call our dog-sitter friends like every hour).
We stayed at a fancy hotel on Michigan Ave and wondered the city. It was nice to get away, but too damn hot in that city (not that its far, but the lack of huge buildings and concrete keep Milwaukee a bit cooler -at least that is my hypothesis). We did some typical tourist things like go to the aquarium and Navy Pier...however, my favorite thing was the chocolate, wine and cheese restaurant we went to. We had the yummiest cheese and chocolate and I now am craving Dutch Gouda covered in toffee:)
