Next Steps

So, we are back from the doctor. That was a strange, yet good, experience:)

The doctor pretty much looked at all of our history and charts, asked a ton of questions about our sex life and laid out a plan for the next 6 months. I had a ton of questions, which annoyed her, but all-in-all I think we are all on the same page.

Today I had to have a hemoglobin test (which came back good-14, whatever that means) and had a pelvic exam with cultures. But, and I have never had anyone do this before, she stuck her finger in me bum! She could have at least bought me dinner first! It hurt like hell. And since I am ovulating she didn't want to use lube (which kills sperm) on the speculum or her fingers, so overall it was quite painful.

Once I get my period I have to schedule an ultra sound, more blood work, and an HSG (a test where they inject dye into my uterus and take x-rays). But, here comes the good news, next month we are going to go ahead and do insemination! I am so happy she is okay going that route. She thinks we should try at least 6 rounds (only $300 a piece) before we talk about next steps.

She doesn't think we should do any kind of medication along with the IUI, but alone she says it will increase our odds to about 10% (currently only 1% on our own). I guess for normal counts IUIs are about 20%, so not that much higher.

I am still trying to absorb all of this info and get ready for all the tests, but I am finally feeling a bit hopeful that we might actually be pregnant before the year is over.
