Witching Hour

Our babies seem to have a witching hour, or hours as the case may be. They seem to get very worked up between about 4-6 pm, give or take an hour. Nothing seems to help much. Bouncy seat, swing, walking, sling, nada. Except today. Elijah feel asleep in the swing!!! Yay!!! I am hoping this fondness of the swing continues as dealing with one crying baby is much easier than two.

Of course Greg gets home at about 6:30pm, and when he does the babies are both usually just fine. I bet he thinks I make it up:) Some days I simply hand him a child and go upstairs and take a bath for an hour.

Even with the horror of the witching hour we have some growing babies! Hazel is about 8 lbs and Elijah trails just a half pound behind her. Hazel is holding her head up very well and Elijah is smiling! Hazel tries really hard, but not quite yet. Both are very interested in a few toys and Hazel has started reaching out for them.

At their two month check-up they were not even on the growth chart, but the pedi doesn't have a problem with it since they have their own curve and are growing well. Oh! And we have a wireless Hazel! No more apnea monitor. Not like we've really been using it lately:) But its nice to officially be done with it.

Also, we had our follow-up about Eli's tummy issues at Children's. The GI doc really thinks its a milk allergy. So, no dairy until we are able to get allergy testing when he is a year old. I guess we will have a little vegan on our hands (I'm a vegetarian, Greg only eats farm raised meat, and we plan on raising them nearly veg).

Okay, babies waking, the witching hour begins....

arg. that darn witching hour. the healthy sleep habits book recommends putting them to bed crazy early to help with this. i have to say: we did it and it did work. we put the babies down at 5:30. it was crazy. it took a lot of work to actually make it happen, but we did it. now their bedtime has been pushed back to 6:30, but our witching hour is a little less now. :)

glad they are growing and doing well :)

Lucas was the same way around that age, but it didn't last long!!! I hope it's the same for you! I am going to the post office tomorrow btw, sorry I haven't gotten there yet!

I would rather have the witching hour from 4-6... ours is more like 10 pm - 12 am. Yuck. Although I have extra help, I would also prefer sleep at that point. :)

Hi, sorry to impose again. I love reading your blog as I prepare for our twins...so I hope you don't mind! I wanted to chime in about the "witching" hour. It was rough for us with 1 baby but I can't imagine with 2. So I am sorry you guys have to go through this on top of the milk allergy. But one thing to consider is that it could be acid reflux or "gerd". I wrote you awhile back becuase my son has the dairy allergy and went on neocate. In addition to the allergy he had reflux and it only bothered him at night. There is a correlation between the milk allergy and reflux. My son had "silent" reflux becuase he rarely spit up.
Oh and he seems to be out growing the milk allergy, we are slowing introducing foods with dairy and he is handling them well so far. I have been told most kids will out grow it around 1-3 years of age.
Hope this isn't much unwanted information. It was hard for me going through it becuase no one I knew had experiance with this! I hope things get better at night for you all!

Wow - I just wrote a post about almost the same issue! Our witching hour is more like 5 hours and it is so stressful! I have heard that they grow out of it, so I hope that is true.
Glad to hear that the babies are growing well,

Thanks, Starkels:) Eli is on Neocate (doesn't it smell awful!) and we have been watching for reflux:( We were told it is inevitable. I am glad my blog is helping you prepare...hopefully not scaring you!
