Info Finding

Like the good Type A girl that I am, I went out and bought a book on IVF (The Couples Guide to In Vitro Fertilization-well recommended on thenest) and I will try to read it this weekend. Since we always knew this would be our next step I have done A LOT of research on IVF, and read a ton of blogs and TTTC posts, so I know what I am in for. But, I thought it couldn't hurt to know that much more.

Any pearls of wisdom for a newbie? :) Anything you wish someone would have told you that you didn't find in a book?

BTW-in addition to the daily stims this RE requires the huge PIO shots daily after ET and if a pg is achieved until the 12th week. YIKES. I figured the little needles would be okay, but those? For 10 weeks? Deep breathes.... :)

I do not have any pearls of wisdom, but I just wanted to wish you luck.

Thinking of you.

My advice is this. Everyone has different protocols and everyone's doctor does things a little differently. This used to drive me crazy. I was always trying to determine why I was on BCP this many days and someone else was on BCP that many days and someone else wasn't on BCP at all. etc. etc. There are just so many variations on what people do...It drove me nuts. Now I just try to ignore it and focus on my own thing.

funny, some REs require them till the second trimester, some say you can d/c once you get a positive beta. mine is the later. i am sure that they will change it based on labs and how things look though.

i actually felt like ivf was much easier than iui. more control. you know your schedule. less ultrasounds. the ER did suck, but i can't even remember it now. i just hope it is all worth it in the end. :)

oh...i did end up looking like i was 6 months pregnant by the time i went in for ER. i was so bloated, retained so much water, and my ovaries were huge. make sure you have some clothes with elastic waist for options... :)

Don't let the PIO needles scare you, they're not as bad as they look.
One tip someone gave me that REALLY helped with the PIO shots: ice your bum for 30 seconds or so, bend over the counter (or bed), standing on the opposite leg. Then have DH deliver the shot in one QUICK!! motion.
A heating pad after feels heavenly.
Wishing you all the best!

Good luck! THe PIOs aren't as bad as they look, I promise. I was BAWLING the first time I had to do one, I was so terrified, but most times I never even felt the needle go in. You can do it!

Remain flexible!

You will get a protocol but it won't be exact. AF may be late after you stop the Lupron, you might need to stim for 10 days instead of 7.

Just "go with the flow" (no gross pun intended) and remember that whatever happens, it's out of your control.

Oh, and the shots are not that bad.
