Could it be true? I think it just might be. A good friend of mine (thanks, Sandra!!!) sent me info on a clinic here in Milwaukee (Advanced Institute of Fertility) that is offering half-priced IVF cycles due to the economy ($6K instead of $12K). Skeptic as I am, I needed to call and hear it with my own ears before I could believe it. I called, and it is true.
We have an appointment to talk with the doctor next Friday. Right now the deciding factor will be whether or not he requires us to do all the testing again, b/c if he does, it would basically be the same cost as doing it with our current RE, which would still put it a bit out of reach at this point. Also, meds are not included and those run between $2-3K, so overall it is still quite a bit of money. But for some reason seeing it in the single digits ($8-9K) is much better than the double digits ($12-15K).
The office did tell me that we would need to meet all regular IVF requirements to be eligible, but don't list those anywhere on their website. I think I have some googling to do, as I have no clue what those requirements would be.

Oh, how exciting! Do you have an extra guest room - I might need to take advantage of that myself!
Keep us posted on your appointment!
Wow, that would be great! What are their success rates compared to your clinic - I know, those numbers can be manipulated but I would check out their SART report on the CDC's website for sure.
that's fun news!!! single digits rock for ivf! i wonder if you could just transfer your records and make it easier on everyone?
That's wonderful news!!

It's great that IVF may be an option for you. Good luck!
Thats Awesome!!!! I think sometimes if you just continure to look and search you sometimes might find something that will help - that is soooo great - best of luck - I hope it all works out!
Hi:) We just had our IVF consult today and they told us for the shared risk program, there are requirements for fsh and estradiol levels as well as the woman's bmi. So I'm thinking those are the requirements they're talking about? And age too...
wow, that would be awesome if you could benefit from the economy being so horrible. let us know how the appt goes!
Good luck to you!
Also, if you ever get to Minneapolis, RESOLVE is giving away TWO free IVF cycles at its upcoming conference: http://www.resolve.org/site/PageServer?pagename=mwest_conference_2009_about
That's my shameless plug for the day! :)
Maybe Obama can add IVF treatments to his economic stimulus plan.
That is absolutely awesome! I'm sure they're losing money as less people cycle due to the economy...just goes to show you what their true profit margin is that they are able to cut the price by 1/2 (and likely still generate money).
Excellent!
Wow, that is good to hear. I am two days past my due date from a successful IVF cycle. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the left over gonal f pens, still sealed and in the fridge.
